The process of transitioning from secondary education into further education and employment is a hugely challenging time for any student and as well as their family, and for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, there are additional hurdles but also opportunities.
deafConnectEd is therefore very excited about our pilot transition program for students who are deaf or hard of hearing which will give 12 students from across Victoria the opportunity to participate in a week-long, structured program.

The process of transitioning from secondary education into further education and employment is a hugely challenging time for any student as well as their family, and for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, there are additional hurdles but also opportunities.
deafConnectEd is therefore very excited about our pilot transition program for students who are deaf or hard of hearing which will give 12 students from across Victoria the opportunity to participate in a week-long, structured program. Activities will include:
information sessions about tertiary education (with a presentation by a Disability Liaison Officer and visits to a TAFE and a university)
information sessions about career pathways (including presentation by Senswide and Sign for Work)
motivation, social and team building activities
the opportunity to be matched with a trained deaf mentor at the end of the program
The program will therefore give students the confidence, contacts, information and resources they need to plan their study and work options.
Who is can apply?
Participation will be open to students from across Victoria. We will give priority to students who will leave school at the end of 2016.
Other students can also apply (e.g. students in Year 10 and 11) or people who have already left school but are not studying or working.
